The host will show extended and illuminating videoclips from his own MDMA-AT through which you will get rich illustrations of diverse clinical phenomena. Relevant themes, challenges, and pitfalls of the wounded-healer archetype will be explored, and a partial resolution of the core childhood wounds that led him into the profession will be shown, with raw emotions and recognizable patterns creating resonance.
This is a clinically stimulating 2 part workshop, where empirical findings, theoretical principles and practical procedures from early pioneers, modern experimental research and clinical trials will be weaved into the analysis of the clinical material as we watch. The scientific rationale and the empirical status on risks and benefits will be briefly summarized.
Far too often, the real potential in MDMA-assisted therapy is missed. Learn from authentic clinical footage how to facilitate, navigate and integrate this particular state of conciousness - to maximize benefits and minimize the potential for unproductive destabilization. Seeing how this is done in practice ensures a deeper learning than from didactical presentations alone.
Learn the principles and details on how to best prepare for, navigate, facilitate and integrate this particular state of consciousness - to maximize benefits and minimize the potential for unproductive destabilization.
Excerpts from the jury’s decision:
" Ivar Goksøyr has been a living force in bringing psychedelic therapy into Norwegian healthcare.
By speaking openly about his own journey as a wounded healer, he models authenticity and resilience for both colleagues and patients.
His work demonstrates how courage, compassion, and professionalism can coexist - inspiring hope for those who struggle, and raising the standard for how psychedelic therapy is practiced in the Nordic region."
Award description:
Advancing the theoretical knowledge into practical therapeutic processes• Demonstrates excellence in therapeutic practice and patient care.• Pioneers new methods or models of clinical delivery in the Nordic setting.• Serves as a role model for ethics, safety, and compassion in the field.• Inspires colleagues and contributes to professional standards.
By providing therapists firsthand experience with MDMA-AT in a group setting, this project addresses key challenges related to the optimal development and implementation of MDMA-AT as an emergent treatment. This includes providing therapists with a self-experience training-module in a scalable group format, potentially improving both quality and accessibility to safe and ethical care.
Its primary innovation and focus lies in integrating MDMA-AT within a broader personal and professional development (PPD) framework for method-independent therapist development and well being. As such, this project pioneers a new frontier in therapist training, Empathogen-Assisted Therapist Development (EATD), with potential to ensure more sustainable and effective practice.
Anchored at Norway’s national training/licensing institution, this study will reduce stigma around both MDMA-AT and therapists’ woundedness while advancing knowledge in these relevant domains. If successful, we will pursue a Nordic multicenter trial to further advance knowledge and integrate empathogen-assisted therapist development into existing educational structures while supporting safe, ethical implementation of MDMA-AT in the Nordics.

Psychedelics Today immediately recognized the potential impact of the clincial trial on empathogen-assisted, method-independent therapist development and well-being. They recorded this inteview where Ivar Goksøyr explains the rationale. Learn why the study merits support: Psychotherapy research shows the therapist as a person matters most, yet personal growth is underemphasized in training. Therapists also face high stress and burnout, partly because their own wounds get triggered in the role. MDMA-assisted therapy embedded within a personal and professional development program holds the potential to help with both therapists effectiveness and well-being.
In this portrait-interview on NRK P2, Norway’s national public radio channel for culture, in-depth news and debate, documentaries, and classical and jazz music, Ivar Goksøyr shares his very personal journey as a wounded healer, therapist and as a psychedelic researcher and advocate. He speaks in depth about how the MDMA-assisted healing of his own wounds contrbuted to his professional growth and well-being. This interview is in Norwegian.
